So I’ve recently learned that another flash piece of mine, “Birth Day“, has been accepted for publication. It should appear in the Midwest Literary Magazine in a few days from this posting, and will be included in an MLM anthology sometime in August. I’ll include a link to both the online version of the magazine and purchasing info for the anthology once they become available.
Thus far, only my flash fiction has been published and in smaller markets only, but it’s certainly a start and, actually, I haven’t submitted anything yet in the way of proper short stories.
That said, I’ll be sending out a piece titled “Hunger” to the Machine of Death 2 anthology, to be published by the creators of Dinosaur Comics. You can check out the first Machine of Death anthology here.
I also plan on submitting a story titled “Nurturing Nature” to Edge Press’s Chilling Tales: In Words, Alas, Drown I, an annual anthology of Canadian horror and dark fantasy edited by Michael Kelly. I’ve read the first collection, titled Chilling Tales: Evil Did I Dwell; Lewd Did I Live, and it contains some great stuff.
The competition for spots in either of the above-mentioned anthologies is bound to be tough, but I’m proud of the works I plan to submit and feel they’re up to the challenge, no matter what the result.
Meanwhile, I’m also readying a few stories for submission to various pro-markets, including Chizine and Weird Tales. As always, I’ll keep you posted on my progress (or lack thereof–though, as I’ve mentioned before, I honestly feel that simply prepping stories for and submitting stories to the bigger markets is progress over sticking to the smaller presses, a progress akin to venturing from the shallows into deeper waters).
Wish me luck.
