I write. I travel. I teach.

Not necessarily in that order and occasionally all at once.

I’m Andre. For the last few years I’ve been living and teaching abroad, travelling in between, and writing about it…and whatever else crosses my mind or keyboard.

Writing

I am a freelance writer with a degree in English and experience writing everything from dating advice and corporate copy to creative ghost writing and, well, travel writing. I’ve also written and self-published a couple novels and a few short stories for the fun of it. Browse through this site for examples of my writing. I’m available for freelance writing and copy-editing gigs. Feel free to reach out to discuss working together.

I’ve been travelling nearly non-stop for a half-dozen years and, as of this writing, have lived in five countries on three continents. Now, I get it, most people can’t do that and I’m certainly not here to brag or simply have you live vicariously through me. Instead, my goal here is to help you have unusual and unique travel experiences of your own, even with only two-weeks’ vacation at hand.

I don’t do luxury travel, nor do I do the hosteling backpacker thing, and I pay for all my own trips. My travel style is fully accessible to most and, while I’ve been lucky enough to travel for months at a time, I can tell you how to have similar experiences two weeks at a time. Search for info by destination or, if you don’t know yet where you want to go, check out a few potential itineraries, then fill in the gaps with my tips and guides. With two weeks you don’t have to limit yourself to the tried and true, been there done that; two weeks is plenty for memorable, story-worthy adventures in all parts of the world.

Maybe two weeks just isn’t enough. Maybe you want to give living abroad a shot and feel teaching English as a foreign language is the way to do it. If so, I can help you with that, too. I’ve lived and taught in Thailand, South Korea, Mexico, and the Ivory Coast. I’ve taught in public schools, an educational village, online, and in a private international school. I have a TEFL and CELTA certificate along with experience teaching students as young as 7 and as old as 70. I’ve found jobs through recruiters as well as on my own. I’ve written tons of applications and done countless job interviews.

And I’ve navigated the process of moving to and settling into a completely new country with a completely new culture and completely new language.

If you think it’s for you, I’ll give you pointers on teaching abroad and help you prepare for and navigate the challenges of living abroad.

For students of English as a foreign language I’ve also got some resources here and, if you’d like to take some online lessons with me, just reach out.

I hope you enjoy what you find here and if you have any questions, comments, or just want to start a conversation, don’t hesitate to contact me.
